Leach Potters and Marks

Around 120 Bernard Leach pupils, employees and guest potters have been identified so far and are listed below in alphabetic order of surname. Some stayed only for a few days or weeks and others worked part-time or for a few weeks a year for several years. Only a small number of Leach potters had a personal mark or seal. Some of the people in the list were not potters but helped out in various other ways.

This list has been compiled from several sources which are shown at the end. In some cases the dates given by different sources conflict. These are marked with an asterisk in the Source column.

Note that this is a new area of the web site and more material is being added on a regular basis. Help with images of marks and pots and with background information concerning potters would be much appreciated, especially from potters themselves.

The Leach Pottery is currently closed for resoration until 2007. Trevor Corser is now working at the Gaolyard Studios in St Ives with John Bedding for the time being. Futher details.

Marion Whybrow has published a new book (Nov 1996) about the pottery - LEACH POTTERY ST IVES - THE LEGACY OF BERNARD LEACH. This is available from Harbour Bookshop, 2 Tregenna Place, St Ives, Cornwall TR27 ITA 01736 799215. It contains the most up to date research about the potters associated with Bernard Leach and their marks.
